The Colonel on #letour

Day 7- 193km Livarot to Fougere. We started in the small town famous for its big smelling AOC cheese named ‘the Colonel’ because of the stripes on the outside. It wasn’t a flat stage by any stretch with almost 2000m of elevation but there was still only one official cat4 climb.

The day started with a super early alarm call at 5.20am, breakfast followed by a dash to the coach for 6.30am and a 90 min transfer from our overnight stay at Le Havre.

It was a cool 14c start so definitely a need to wrap up warm. For myself at least a gilet, knee & arm warmers were derigour for the first hour. Pace started at a good level and for the first time in 7 days we enjoyed a tail wind and then cross tail.

We reached the lunch stop in good time and spirits were high. So much so that Dom and James had a wee tickle on the ivories for the title of piano idol.

The afternoon warmed and we enjoyed what I would call a good ‘honest tempo’ all the way into Fougere without incident. Highlights of the day, apart from the good tempo and great team morale, was the magnum ice cream that was waiting for us at the finish. It’s always the little things, thanks Dan and Morts.

Good news is that we are staying in Rennes, the start town for tomorrow and breakfast is at 7am, it’s another 180km day through the rolling terrain of Brittany to the aptly named ‘Mur de Bretagne’ or wall of Britanny! Nowhere near as steep as the Mur de Huy but it’s still got to be climbed. See you on the otherside as we say. πŸ‘πŸš΄

I’ve also developed a five a day habit, bananas that is, as Sams picture suitably demonstrates πŸ˜€

Thank you all for your messages of support on Twitter, the team and I really appreciate it.
