Stage 1

Stage 1
– 210km Alghero to Olbia
Some stunning scenery enroute with blue skies and an average temp of 28°C

This was billed as a flat stage which ran along the northern coast of the island. The route is relatively wavy and bumpy with a long steady sequence of constant undulations and a number of short steep ramps, including 3 categorised climbs in Multeddu, Trinità d’Agultu and San Panta-leo.

Came across some interesting fellas on scooters…

The latter, less than 20 km from the finish totals approximately 5 km at a 8% slope over a few kilometres and maximum gradients are even higher in the first part.

A rolling finale led all the way to Olbia
The roads were rough and with only five of us coupled with the wind. Being an island it seemed windy everywhere you rode especially close to the coast & 2500m elevation for a ‘flat’ stage.

Our physio Sarah has just given me a quick massage and put my legs back together, some overnight protein then lights off.  Tomorrow is 221km and if today is any
thing to go by it will be tough.
